Judeo-Christian religion teaches us that when a woman is procured from her father to be wed to another believer, she must be pure, clean, chaste, and white. I was none of those things. And yet Hiram fell in love with me and cared for me more deeply than I dreamed I would ever experience. I wasn't like a virgin with him, because sex with virgins is awful. Love -- not obedient slavery, not lies -- cleansed my soul and and made me rich and able to love in return. What a lovely tradition we live in. On the bright side, the language of St James beattitudes, psalms, and the occasional erotic song (permitted only to be sung by ordained Kings) is pretty fucking ace. We have to make our own Edens in this world because someone, somewhere, kicked all of us out from the one that should be the rightful inheritance of every last member of humanity. Also, animals.
