Well, I could live in a dream house, with two tigers guarding the door and windows the size of a Roman bath where words don't get in the way. And I could live in a dream house, with a blue and green lawnmower, and gold hidden in the floorboards where words don't get in the way. Do you remember the time before we met when I woke up from a nightmare for the third night in a row so I woke you up and we went for a walk in the streets spattered with moonlight through the trees? Well, I could live in a dream house, with chelations guarding the sky and leaves carpeting the floor where words don't get in the way.

There's a boy (who looks a lot like I did) living with his father's disease and a girl who dreams at night of cancer because she thinks it will make her beautiful. And they're both just sitting and waiting for someone who looks a lot like them. And they hug each other a little and listen for ghosts in the other room. There's a song they sing to each other that neither one can remember, so they stay exactly where we left them, watching ghosts swirl around their room.

I want to be your rose of sharon, your white and rising dove. I want to be your morning light, your evening's final shadow. I want to be your cup of wine, your honey, and your fruit and I am waiting on the vine to be your rose of sharon. I want to be your rose of sharon, your song so low and sweet -- the white and perfect flower you never cease to sing.

The Harvey Girls Portland, Oregon

Melissa Rodenbeek and Hiram Lucke formed The Harvey Girls in August of 2003 in Lawrence, Kansas. The group combine the... melodies of bubblegum pop with experimentation in sound. Their music stands as a cross between Prince Paul's production work and the songs of the Shangri-Las. The couple moved to Portland, OR, in 2006 where they remain. Josh Millard joins the couple in their live shows. ... more
